A good night’s slumber: all-natural healing for the mind and body

on November 5, 2013

You can do everything to stay healthy – eat right, exercise, even take your vitamins.

Sleep however, can be prioritized at the end of our to-do lists so often that we forget just how essential it is.  Without it, our bodies are losing time allotted for healing and repairs.

You’re busy, but a satisfying snooze is worth it.

Here’s why – Sweet dreams

During the day, our body uses the sympathetic nervous system, which expels energy and tears down the body.  Lawrence Wilson, MD, says that this is balanced by the parasympathetic system associated with rest, nurturing and regeneration of body tissues.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, the average adult should get 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Anything less than that means your physical and mental performance will suffer.  An illness can even develop because your body won’t have the time to repair its damages. The less you sleep, the weaker your immune system will be.

Your body needs to unwind, and so does your mind.  Sleep on it. Allowing your mind to rest will help you make more rational decisions, and you’ll be happier that way.

You won’t be your very best self without it.
